Time Is Too Short To Wait

Time is too short to wait. This statement keeps coming into our daily lives and we don’t seem to get rid of it. It has been quite some time and I have been busy as always. This is an excuse we tend to give to others for not doing what we were supposed to do.

It looks like if you are not getting any money or any other type of benefit, you lose interest. Maybe this could be the common behavior of the majority of mortals!

It is not common to work and even live for others without asking for anything in return. A number of researchers believe that even those who are really devoting their lives to the needy or have done so in their lives, like Mother Teresa of Calcutta, got something in return: happiness, sense of accomplishment in life, etc.

The story turns around a person trying to give a meaning to his or her life by identifying and pursuing their main purpose in life, a purpose that, in order to succeed, should be external, meaning greater than ourselves.

This is what I have decided to do in my life. I can relate to my childhood in the heart of Africa. I can see even today what was happening around me 50 years ago and I feel privileged to be where I am now. I know so many people who came into this world before, or at the same time, or even after me, would like to be like me. They would like to be where I am today.

The question is: do they know what I am going through? Do they know who I am? I don’t think so! My life’s journey has been marked by moments of sorrow and moments of great joy. Your life too has been marked by ups and downs. The difference between me and you may be how deep in the pit or how high in the sky each one of us has been and what kind of mindset we went there with.

It is not what happens to you but how you react to it that determines who or what you become. We start projects that never get completed. That’s fine if we learn from our mistakes and move on to the next project with a lesson. However, starting and abandoning new projects so many times can be a sign of a lack of the main purpose in life. I can be a lack of passion, a lack of planning, etc. If you can identify and pursue your ultimate goal in life with passion, belief, determination, plan of action, massive action and surround yourself with positive minds, then you are on your way to success.

Do not say that you will do that tomorrow because tomorrow never comes. This procrastination habit has imprisoned me for a very long time. When I decided to move out of the box, I became like a chick out of the egg. The security of a monthly pay cheque is gone and I want it to be gone forever. I have resisted four years now without it. It is not easy. I can feel the pain, especially as I am writing this story. I don’t know anymore who is my friend. My 19 years old son once asked me: daddy, who is your best friend? This question will never leave my mind because I can’t answer it until now. I feel a little bit guilty.

But should I really feel guilty? I have chosen my narrow path. I have refused to follow the highway of everybody who is anxious to move fast.  I have chosen a thorny path and will follow it with courage and determination. I am not apologizing to anyone for the choices I have made.

I have set up a business to help young poor girls around the world with education and employment opportunities. I have a plan to help those ladies from the elementary school to high school to University, to the job of their dreams. I dream of a classroom that will consider the talents of each and every kid instead of chasing them from school for failing a subject they don’t like in the first place. Ladies are the basis of any family, community and nation’s success. I have exhausted all my investments for that purpose.

I still need to meet those angels amongst us to lift me because I need miracles. I am surrounded by all the negative forces that are stepping on me and crushing me to the ground. I know that every setback is a set up for a comeback as Joe Olsen would put it. I am not afraid because I have decided to do the right thing for others. I am not afraid because I have nothing to hide.

There are times when you feel like you want to capitulate but that might be the time you are getting closer to victory because your enemy is exhausted as well and you don’t know. That’s why you should stick to your goal until you succeed or die. You can change a strategy that is not working but do not change your main goal. Stay positive and keep moving. Do what makes your heart sing and stay away from all those who discourage you.

There are good people in this world but those are very few. When you meet them, they will run to meet you before you can even open your mouth. Those are the people who will take part in your journey. They may not be your family, the friends you think you have but they will be there. Your task is to find them.

Your childhood dreams did not go away and it is not late to make them a reality. The right time to plant a tree was yesterday. The next and only time remaining is NOW.
